My horror movie reviews

Totally Killer Review

I'm tempted to give this movie a lower rating than it deserves. Mostly because it aims high one moment yet misses the next. I guess the mere fact it juggles so many things, from the 80s to time travel to a post-Scream kind of horror to a commentary on all the formers, is what keeps me from bringing The Final Girls to mind. And it's obvious that not only are the 80s more tricky to harness as time goes by but they've been lampooned more often than usual since Napoleon Dynamite or even VH1's Totally Awesome in 2006. Plus it doesn't help that the 10s reminded us of how a lot of people became nostalgic with not only that era's atmosphere but sheer effort and ambition that created epic works one moment yet maintained a trend that nearly kept a close mind the next. If nothing else it's ambitious and fun despite feeling like a Disney channel film for adults one moment and an earnest, if not sophisticated, love letter to slasher-horror the next.
