The Pine Creepers Review

Another ambient animated horror from the same director as 2023's The Worm, this could essentially be the Jason to the latter's Freddy. I say this because, while The Worm is more an idea that makes you think, The Pine Creepers is more an idea that makes you contemplate. Especially when The Worm is meant to get under your psyche while Pine Creepers is less focused on traditional horror and instead returns to a more classical vibe. This being when the mise-en-scene was like a painting rather than an opportunity for a horror based set piece. And the best part is that since this is animated it essentially is to painting to what live action is to photography. Meaning that the horror once again lies in experiencing how these painted frames juxtapose with one another in a way that really feels artistic, and inspired, in animation. That's not to say it cant be done in live-action as the movie does harken back to other folk creature features like Wendigo.

But the animation immerses best with as much the landscapes as the music and overall vibes.
