The Devil's Backbone Review

Ironically enough this is mostly just a beta version of Pan's Labyrinth, which wasn't even a horror movie. That's not to say it's far beyond your average film of that genre from the early 2000s. In fact it's a fairly impressive ghost story where, much like Labyrinth, the characters who appear like horror villains aren't the real ones. Yeah, it's also not as violent, but it mostly feels like a folk horror turning into a war film (or at least a prison break one). Still, the story unfolds with hints of tragedy and psychological depth which makes it all the more unique.
