Slither Review
Sometimes I forget that James Gunn made this movie before he went on to make the Guardians films he’s fairly renowned for. For one he once worked for Troma, which is the American equivalent of Hammer Horror. Though to be purely honest I don’t really remember much from this movie past there being evil space slugs that control people, and Michael Rooker stealing the show before moving on as Yondu. Yeah, it was a more fun anecdote from most movies from the 2000s while still relying on their formula. I just feel as though Gunn would’ve worked best by taking the Jackson/Raimi approach by making more horror movies before moving on to blockbuster epics. But this is what it is and is an impressive 80s space horror homage to the point that, much like The Last Winter, felt like a better follow up to a certain movie of those same 80s than the official follow-up.
