Sleepy Hollow (1999) Review

I think this was Tim Burton trying to pull of a less is more approach for the first time. It was also his first attempt at trying to make a more serious R-Rated movie after not only Ed Wood succeeded critically yet failed financially, but vice versa with Mars Attacks. On one hand he’s not only trying to channel Charlotte Brontë, but also Hammer horror almost as a way of expanding from his simple Beetlejuice and Batman beginnings. For the most part he succeeds while still being a less impressive (yet also less brutal) version of his Sweeney Todd film a few years later. But it’s still passable and showcases his overall versatility in his prime before the turn of the millennium.
