My horror movie reviews

Prometheus Review

I honestly found the trailer ten times more haunting than the movie itself. This is because the movie felt like it was build-up for the first two thirds before really becoming some kind of horror in the last third (at least during the alien removal scene). That’s not to say there weren’t scenes which were shocking towards the beginning (though now that I realize it that scene where an alien-diseased man is killed with a flamethrower may have been an homage to that obvious movie by John Carpenter). It just felt odd watching an Alien movie that didn’t have the name in the title. Especially when it doesn’t give away that it’s a prequel until a few minutes before the credits begin to roll. But much like Alien: Covenant it was still a surreal treat to see someone essentially return to something that hadn’t been good enough since the 70s or 80s for them and remind us of the possibilities it still possessed. Especially when it does its best to try and adapt to a post-Christopher Nolan world before accepting that it is what it is and just gives whatever it has left in that same 2017 follow-up.
