Predator Review
You would think this was the kind of movie that you would get in the 90s as they were all about deconstructing the slasher and testosterone fueled muscleman genres. But many forget that slashers were hinted at in 1960’s Psycho and were working their way into American mainstream with 70s flicks like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween. So really this was more the same tough action guy straight out of Apocalypse Now giving the Alien movies (from that same Marlon Brando vehicle) cause to evolve (which, to everyone’s detriment, became literally the case when Alien vs. Predator: Requiem was released). Much like Aliens a year prior this is more a science fiction/action thriller with an overabundance of suspense by today’s standards. But it is well made and one of the more exemplary cases of being a product of its time.
