My horror movie reviews

Nosferatu (2024) Review

Oh hey: I mention Nosferatu in my review of Eggers's previous horror outing, The Lighthouse, who knew. Though rest assured: unlike The original (and if you've read my review for it) This iteration was less of a pain to access. Now to start on the film I can honestly say it's an impressive update to the original, to the point it may as well be called Nosferatu Minus One in terms of how deeply serious it takes the original enough to updatd the shit out of it. For one it succeeds as a period piece. It as much manages to immerse you into the gothic spirit as it essentially takes the best of Eggers's previous films (The Northman's set designs in that Gypsy village or The Lighthouse's psychological horror with Elena's scenes) and brims new life to Nosferatu. Granted Orlock might have partially fused with Ron Jeremy in terms of appearance and behaviour. However, features like Hoults's performance, the way it makes the plague even more timely by the third act (especially for a horror movie) and Orlock's R rated mercilessness is also why Eggers really recaptured the best of the original while giving it a more in-your-face touch. Plus he even psys homage to the iconic ending in a way that works. Overall I found it a fairly enjoyable hard dark fantast of Bronte-esque atmosphere.
