It Chapter 2
 Review

I’m not going to lie: there was a scene involving Olivia Newton John’s “Angel of the morning” that brought Filthy Frank into mind. For the majority of the film that’s how It Chapter 2 felt like: more of a so bad it’s intentionally hilarious horror comedy made by someone with enough experience to know what he was doing. Which, for better and for worse, is why it could only work this way if this was meant to be a second part to the breath of fresh air that was the first film now that audiences were clearly going to expect something different. Since the first one took place in the 80s rather than the 50s it was only natural for part 2 to take place in the 2010s rather than the 80s. Although it is debatable, there are still nevertheless scenes that shift from being highly funny to being horrific afterwards as a way of subverting your expectations (particularly one involving baseball bleachers and another in a hall of mirrors). It even messes with the audience’s mindset when the climactic battle occurs. So whether you liked or disliked the first part, It Chapter 2 certainly does things differently in a way that either fixes or adds to what we previously saw.
