It (1990) Review

If you've read the book and seen the 2017-2019 version then you'll see right away what was the problem with this movie. To start neither versions have the turtle nor certain scenes that will probably be edited out of the original book, within a decade or two, regardless of anyone's intentions of even making a PG-13 version. However, much like Marabunta, 1990's It wasn't just made for TV but in the same 90s (better yet when they were just starting). It shouldn't come as a shock that there were going to be scenes that lacked as much credible horror as even updated effects for their time. Of course Muschietti's take goes all out in its own right, it just does it in a way that at least aims to be as epic as much it's source material's scope as its ambition and length. Yes, nobody can match Tim Curry's personality and charm, he just lacks the alien depth that Skarsgård brought to the role. Of course despite all of this one feature the old version probably has that the new one doesn't is that 80s (holdover) aesthetic. The late 10s version obviously does its best, it just makes a questionable choice to move the date in which it takes place in up a few decades compared to the 90s version's faithfulness to the source material. If nothing else this version is at least fun despite its shortcomings.
