My horror movie reviews

Insidious Review

I can’t really say this movie was too scary. It did have a jumpscare or two that was used in a more effective light, and a borderline silliness that felt like it was at least aiming to break from all The Ring knockoffs that plagued the decade that came before it (before The Cabin in the Woods would show us how it’s done/let alone the other films director James Wan was best noted for). I feel as though it worked better as a mixture between The Exorcist and Paranormal Activity in terms of trying to update both movies while still serving as a vibrant homage (almost like a diet Drag me to Hell). It also reminded me on how the real difference between films like Nightmare on elm street or Friday the 13th and films like Se7en as well as The Sixth Sense (other than the decades) was how the formers set up to pave the way for the sequel while the others were very much just a twist ending. Overall it was at least a good way for horror films to start the 2010s.
