Evil Dead Rise Review

One thing that I couldn't help but wonder at first is why, much like Scream 6, horror movies took place indoors so much nowadays. Of course it wasn't until the very end when the cinematography really went into that late 70s/early 80s feel that it worked the most for an Evil Dead film. For one these movies are best known for their primary adherence to practical effects (seeing as the 2013 iteration tried yet failed by 5% of the film). Another thing is that, unlike that same iteration, Evil Dead Rise legitimately works for the post-2000s violence we're all familiar with and as far as incorporates more supernatural and (spoiler) body horror into its scope. I mean the Deadites certainly prove how they're less traditional zombies and more akin to those Warm Bodies species with a tiny bit of The Mask's DNA to add a flavour or two. Obviously this installment keeps the shots that look like Stanley Kubrick racing a drone (to the point they even parody that idea at the start of the film) yet doesn't bring back that many recurring characters like the 2013 version did by the end. But as far as clever and horrifying simultaneously goes, this is suitably groovy eitherway.
