Evil Dead (2013) Review
This movie was really advertised as the kind of horror film that redefined the genre at the time. I never saw the original two films and only gave the third film a chance. I did, however, see āPanic Attack!ā, which the director of this iteration of Evil Dead directed. On one hand it does aim for shock horror that doesnāt skimp enough to count as torture porn the way Piranha 3D or even Dr. Sleep did. It does, however, flirt with the notion (especially during one death scene involving a character being dezombified and another losing a limb). What mostly distracted me from seeing much of a pro from this film is having recently seen not only The Cabin in the Woods but Tucker and Dale vs. Evil a few months before seeing this. Compared to those this felt like a step backwards, especially when Raimi himself made Drag Me To Hell as a sort of Paper Mario to Evil Deadās Legend of the Seven Stars. But Iād be lying if I said it doesnāt at least try to be a different kind of horror (despite the irony of a certain cameo by the end of the credits).
