Doña Lupe Review

This doesn’t really feel like a horror movie so much as a short action thriller. I mean I can get that it’s violent like one, let alone suspenseful. It just doesn’t feel sporadically scary by even 80s standards. Or maybe this being Del Toro’s first ever film makes it seem amateur compared to even Geometria, where he has at least ten times the budget despite it being a third of Doña Lupe’s length. Not that it’s surprising as this was filmed when he was 19 years old, an age when we have the highest ambitions yet lack the skills. Still, the music, acting, lighting, and nostalgic 80s vibe (by default) are nifty.
