Child’s Play Review
I feel that the real issue with this film is that it ended up being a one trick pony that failed once the sequels gave away its one twist. Meaning that as hard as it is to believe now there was still a time when nobody knew it was about a possessed doll (yet). That’s essentially the reason why, up until the reveal, the entire movie leaves it ambiguous. The only thing that seemed to survive from it may have been the dying 80s charm before the sequels themselves began cancelling it out. Though even then the characters don’t really share that many other inspired connections compared to the other slasher films of that same decade.
