My horror movie reviews

American Psycho Review

At its best this is a clown of a movie to counter the mime that was Alfred Hitchcock’s similarly titled film. Yes, it sounds silly to compare films for that one reason, except the “killer” in this film happens to have “Bate” as a last name as well (or in this case “Bateman”) and was also based on a novel. It’s also a movie full of personality, style, intelligence, and an overall diet Stanley Kubrick vibe in terms of aesthetic and thematic grasp. On the other hand it feels disorganized at times (compared to Hitchcock’s less is more flow) to the point you feel as though this was the cinematic equivalent of someone juggling so many things that once they got to the chainsaws (as did this movie) they ran off a few seconds after successfully doing so. This causing everyone else to panic out of the building as the same machines began tearing up the stage. That’s also essentially the horror by the end of the film at the risk of spoiling: morbid (and even twisted) by nature but no one really getting hurt in the end.
