My horror movie reviews

A Fantastic Fear of Everything Review

Apparently the general consensus agrees that this counts as a horror movie. Ok, yes, it’s a horror comedy to be specific, it just seems to have trouble balancing both. On one hand the third act essentially flirts with something you would expect from a hard horror film (I fear simply repeating the words “torture porn” has become its own form of torture porn with how frustrating it sounds) without actually even dipping its toes in the water. However, it’s too all over the place in terms of tone to really succeed in both. That’s not to say it’s a bad idea. Far from it if it doesn’t do anything else right it’s commit to making sure it at least breaks new ground, whether it succeeds by playing it safe or not. Plus Pegg and Karan were likable enough to help me watch the film in its entirety. I just feel the film doesn’t want to take the wrong kind of risks and, by default, none of the right ones either. Yes, it’s ambitious, yet for every moment we get that aims for inspiration we either get a missed opportunity or simply a hit-and-miss in terms of either horror or comedy (if not just both). Like I said It’s not bad, it’s just not that good either.

(Plus I never really liked the title very much.)
